Easy Ways To Clean Your Blinds

There is one household chore that most of us dread, and that is cleaning our blinds. This chore can be very frustrating and time consuming, but it must be done because these home accessories seem to be dust magnets. There are tips and hints that can make cleaning your blinds much easier and more pleasant, so that you do not put it off any longer. Your vacuum can be an immense help with this hated chore if you have a brush attachment for it, and this method will eliminate the problem of dust flying everywhere that happens with a duster. Socks can also be used with this chore, and with this method you will be done in no time and your blinds will be spotless. Wet one sock and then put it on one hand, put the dry sock on the other one, and wipe down the blinds with alternate hands.

A miniature paint brush can be very effective in cleaning your window blinds, because the small size fits easily between the slats and one swipe cleans the entire surface of the slat. Soaking your blinds can also clean them without too much fuss, but you must take them down from the window for this method. Fill the sink with hot soapy water that has a splash of vinegar added, then put the blinds in the sink with the slats opened. Leave them soaking for one half to one hour and then thoroughly rinse them off and let them air dry before you put them back up. The material of your window blinds will determine whether this method can be used, because wood and cloth blinds should not be immersed in water, but aluminum or vinyl blinds work perfectly with this method.

There are specific tools advertised that are intended for cleaning blinds, with fingers or other appendages that fit between the slats perfectly. Some of these devices work just as they were designed to, however some of these devices may be ineffective or hard to use, not to mention overpriced. The best way to make cleaning your blinds easy is to do this chore frequently, so that dust and dirt do not have a chance to build up and accumulate. This will ensure that your blinds stay clean and look great all the time. If you have blinds made of wood, a dusting spray like pledge can be used with a soft cloth to wipe down the slats and provide a barrier to dust, while nourishing the wood in the process. This will leave your wood shining and new looking, and keep it from drying out or cracking at the same time. No matter what material your blinds are made of, regular cleanings will give them a much longer life.
